Thane Ring Metro Tender Advances

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has floated tenders for the construction of eight stations under the ambitious Thane Ring Metro project, marking a key step forward for the proposed circular metro corridor in the city. Among these, six will be elevated while the remaining two are planned as underground stations.

The 29-km-long project, planned with 22 stations, is now estimated to cost Rs 12,200.10 crore, notably higher than the Rs 10,893 crore projected nearly seven years ago. The construction cost for the two underground stations is pegged at Rs 223.70 crore, while the six elevated stations are estimated to cost Rs 228.44 crore. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited issued Tender T1-023/C-02/2025 (Dated 25 November 2025) for the construction of six elevated metro stations, with a Corrigendum-1 dated 15 December 2025 revising the station set and the tender calendar.

The six elevated stations—Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagruha, Manpada, Dongripada, Vijay Nagari, Waghbil, and Waterfront—form an integral part of the upcoming circular metro network. The project has a completion period of 30 months. The deadline for completing the underground stations has been set at five years, while the elevated stations are expected to be completed within 2.5 years.

This award officially marked the transition of the Thane Integral Ring Metro from planning into full-scale on-ground execution. Civil construction has begun in Ghodbunder (April 2026), with the Kalpataru–HG Infra JV holding a ₹1,415 crore EPC contract, and a ₹223.7 crore station package for 6 elevated stations under bid evaluation.

For homebuyers and real estate investors, this tender advancement carries tangible implications. Once functional, the Ring Metro is projected to slash intra-city travel time by 50 to 75 per cent, and Thane will become the first city in Maharashtra to have its entire urban footprint stitched together through a metro corridor. The corridor is expected to be partially operational by 2029. The city has long battled severe road congestion, especially along Ghodbunder Road, in Old Thane and around Wagle Estate, as fast-developing pockets such as Ghodbunder and New Thane sit at considerable distance from the suburban railway grid.

MahaMetro expects groundwork after the monsoon, subject to site readiness and utility shifting. The tender process itself reflects execution discipline—procurement milestones, revised bid windows, and clear commercial terms signal that delivery tracking has shifted from policy announcements to contractual obligation. For property investors, each tender award de-risks proximity value and anchors the timeline by which connectivity premiums can be captured.
