Ahmedabad Metro Blue Line Reaches Thaltej Gam

There is something quietly momentous about a train reaching the last stop on its own map for the first time. On the morning of December 8, 2024, that moment arrived for Ahmedabad's Blue Line, as the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation extended metro train services operating between Vastral Gam and Thaltej up to Thaltej Gam. The first departure, fittingly early, left Thaltej Gam at 6:20 am, carrying with it years of anticipation from residents who had watched the elevated tracks rise over their neighbourhood long before a single train ran on them.

The extension itself is modest in distance but significant in consequence. Thaltej Gam station and the adjoining 1.4 km-long section leading to Thaltej station were opened on 8 December 2024, completing the East-West Corridor that now stretches, in its entirety, from one edge of the city to the other. The Blue Line consists of 18 metro stations, running from Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam over a total distance of 21.23 km, with most of it elevated, weaving through the old city's underground stretch near Kankaria and Kalupur before surfacing again into the wide, tree-lined avenues of the west.

The Thaltej Gam station sits within walking distance of some of west Ahmedabad's busiest addresses — the metro station serves PVR Acropolis along with Mondeal Business Park in West Ahmedabad, meaning office-goers and moviegoers alike now have a direct, traffic-free link into the rest of the city. Commuters heading toward the old city, Kankaria, or Vastral no longer need to change vehicles at Thaltej; the line simply carries them further west than it ever has before.

But the story of Ahmedabad's metro does not end at Thaltej Gam — it merely pauses there before the next chapter. Metro planners have already sketched the next westward leap: a proposed Metro Phase 3 corridor connecting Thaltej Gam to Godhavi through a modern Metro-RRTS network, with an estimated project cost of ₹2,825 crore and approximately 10.8 km of elevated connectivity. The proposed alignment reads like a checklist of Ahmedabad's fastest-growing suburbs — Thaltej Gam → Science City → Shilaj → South Bopal → Shela → Ghuma → Godhavi — corridors that have, until now, relied entirely on road traffic along the increasingly congested S.P. Ring Road.

The real estate implications of this pipeline are already being discussed by analysts tracking the western belt. As one industry report on the upcoming corridor put it, the bigger opportunity lies in how this network could gradually connect established residential markets with the Ahmedabad-Dholera growth corridor. That framing matters for homebuyers today: localities like Thaltej, Bopal, and Shela are no longer being evaluated purely on their current road access but on where the metro map is headed over the next five to seven years. Property consultants tracking the SG Highway and Bodakdev micro-markets have long noted that property prices in the area range between Rs 6,500-7,500 per sq ft and will rise with time, and station-adjacent pockets tend to see that appreciation curve steepen first.

For a homebuyer weighing options in west Ahmedabad today, the Thaltej Gam extension is less a headline event and more a quiet, load-bearing piece of infrastructure — the kind that rarely makes for dramatic news but steadily reshapes how a city moves, works, and eventually, where its residents choose to put down roots. With Phase 3 discussions already underway and PIB clearance reportedly secured for the wider western network, the window to buy ahead of the next wave of connectivity may be narrower than it appears.
